My name is John and I am the owner of the Restaurant. The business has been operating since Sept.1987. Our cuisine is North Indian as my home town is Calcutta.( Kolkata )
I was in born in Bombay ( Mumbai ) in 1947 and placed in Dr.Graham's Homes Kalimpong, at the age of 5yrs and was there for 10years. I finished my schooling in St. Paul's Mission School in Calcutta and came to Australia when I was 21yrs old. I did odd jobs and ended doing nursing at Minda Home Brighton for 15 1/2 years. My long time goal was to have a restaurant, as I knew that I had a God given gift, but had to go through life, crossing several bridges to get me to where I am now.
I enjoy what I do and that is cooking. I also do photography. I hope I can take you all through lifes journey of enjoying good food, and seeing the people and the children of the Homes and Calcutta, taken through the lens of my camera. Cooking and Photography go hand in hand as they are products of creativity and thats what I am about.
I hope that I can bring into your homes and hearts my passion for sharing and caring for those less fortunate than us. I went back to the Homes in 2005 after 43 years as I had reason to do so. I carried a burden of hate for many years and I had to go back to relieve this burden. In doing so, I was taken back to my roots, where I was looking in as an outsider. The burden of hate that I was carrying for many years had disappeared and had turned into love and compassion for those that are there now. My objective is to help these children, and to let them know that there is someone like many others who cares for them, and is willing to share the love and compassion that I did not experience in my childhood.
I hope you will take the time to look at some of the smiling faces captured during my previous visits to the Homes, as well as a short film put together from my visit in 2008, I would like to share my journey through life with you.
